Performance Review 2022

Performance Review 2022

After a busy year, we’ve crunched the numbers to give you our performance review for 2022.

One significant observation we’ve noticed the year is the dramatic increase in the volume applications to join dynamic purchasing systems (DPSs) and frameworks, as opposed to bidding directly for individual contracts. If you’re not familiar with these two terms, we’ve produced handy videos covering both.

In summary, both a DPS and a framework acts as a kind of approved list. It means suppliers are part of a smaller pool of competitors, who are invited to bid for contract opportunities when they arise. This makes it quite attractive to become part of a DPS or framework, as you’ll likely see more opportunities coming your way, however both offer no guarantee of any contracts.

We’re not sure whether this increase in DPS and framework applications represents a trend in public sector buyer behaviour, or represents our clients’ appetites this last year. Regardless, it’s had two major effects on our review figures:

  1. It’s reduced the overall contract values we have secured for our customers. Winning a tender for a contract makes it easy to work out the value won for our clients. However, it’s not as simple for frameworks and DPSs. Whilst clients have a significantly greater chance of winning contracts of value thanks to their position on frameworks and DPSs, there is no guarantee of any contracts being awarded, and so we don’t estimate a proportionate contract value for the purposes of our review. Rather, we mark all wins for framework and DPS applications as a £0 contract value.
  2. Secondly, unlike framework applications or tenders for contracts, DPS applications specifically tend to be easier to achieve success. The application process is less laborious than your standard tender. We are sure that the increased number of DPS applications last year helped our success rate to skyrocket.

Let’s take a look at the numbers.

We couldn’t be happier with our figures for 2022. A 92% success rate is huge! This is, in part, down to an increase DPS applications, as mentioned previously. These are easier bidding processes and help inflate the figures. However, even with DPS applications removed from the calculation, we still managed to secure 31 wins from 34 bids (91%) encompassing framework applications, selection questionnaires and tenders for contracts. Looking at our contract tendering success rate, in isolation, we have had staggering success with 84.2%, beating our previous 2020 record of 82%!

It was our aim of 2021 to get more of our clients onto public sector frameworks. Our figures for 2022 show this aim has been met and we will continue to support our clients apply for and win positions on the many public sector frameworks and DPSs up and down the country.

Likewise, we have continued to support smaller businesses across the UK and across sectors. 100% of our clients are SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises), who often find it more challenging to navigate and win public sector tenders.
