What is G-Cloud 15 and Why It Matters

Crown Commercial Service has now launched the G-Cloud 15 framework. Applications are open until 30th January 2026

What is the G-Cloud?

Ever wondered how public sector organisations in the UK – like councils, schools, and NHS trusts – buy their cloud software and services?
Well, that’s where the G-Cloud framework comes in. And the latest version, G-Cloud 15, is here with some pretty big updates.

The G-Cloud is basically a pre-approved list of suppliers offering cloud-related software, hosting, and support services.

Think of it like an online catalogue – public buyers can scroll through, compare options, and pick the supplier that fits their needs.

No messy procurement process. Just easier, faster, and transparent access to trusted cloud providers.

The framework is divided into ‘Lots,’ or categories.

  • Lot 1 covers Infrastructure and Platform as a Service.
  • Lot 2 is all about Software as a Service – that’s your apps and digital tools.
  • And Lot 3 focuses on Cloud Support Services – basically the people who help make all this tech work smoothly.

CHANGES IN VERSION 15

One big change in G-Cloud 15 is the rolling contract structure.

The framework runs for 18 months, then reopens twice more – letting new suppliers join and existing ones update their listings.

That means the marketplace stays fresh and competitive.

Unlike older versions, G-Cloud 15 focuses more on quality, price, and social value.

So suppliers aren’t just judged by cost – they’re also evaluated on things like technical ability, innovation, and how they give back to society.

G-CLOUD REQUIREMENTS

To join, suppliers need proof they’ve successfully delivered similar services in the last 3 years.

Some Lots require solid credentials – like Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO certifications, and insurance cover, especially the high-security Lots.

Scoring works differently depending on the lot – but generally, quality makes up most of the marks.
Suppliers show how they’ll maintain performance, continuity, and innovation, while prices are checked for fairness and compliance.

SUMMARY

So, whether you’re a public buyer or a cloud supplier, G-Cloud 15 is all about simplifying procurement, raising standards, and keeping the public sector connected to innovation.

In short – it’s the UK government’s way of making cloud services smarter, safer, and more accessible.

The G-Cloud 15 framework application is currently LIVE and will close 30th January 2026.
